HETAUDA, AUGUST 5 A man was killed and another injured after a truck carrying vegetables veered off the Tribhuvan Highway and plunged into a stream in Makawanpur early Wednesday, police said. The deceased has been identified as Arjun Karki, 36, of Raksirang Rural Municipality-9. The injured, Ranjit Karki, 23, the victim's nephew, sustained a fractured right leg and injuries to other parts of his body. According to Makawanpur Police spokesperson DSP Madhav Kafle, the six-wheeled box truck (Madhesh Province 03-002 Kha 5095) was travelling from Palung to Birgunj with a consignment of vegetables when it skidded on a downhill stretch of the Tribhuvan Highway at Tiltar in Bhimphedi Rural Municipality-2. The vehicle reportedly lost control due to rain and dense fog before plunging around 100 metres into the Chandi Khola. Ranjit Karki is undergoing treatment at Hetauda Hospital. The accident occurred at around 2:30 am, but police said they were informed of the incident only at about 6:30 am. Further investigation is underway.
