KATHMANDU, AUGUST 5 The Nepal Police's Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) Security Office has warned returning Nepalis, particularly migrant workers, against carrying parcels or valuables for strangers, cautioning that doing so could result in legal action if the items are found to be part of smuggling operations. In a public notice issued on Wednesday, the airport security office said some Nepali workers returning from labour destinations such as Dubai, Qatar and Malaysia have been enticed by brokers with cash or gifts to transport gold, mobile phones and other valuables into Nepal. Police warned that travellers found carrying such items illegally could face prosecution even if they claim they were unaware of the contents or ownership of the goods. The security office urged passengers not to accept luggage, parcels, gold or other valuables from unknown individuals or brokers before boarding flights to Nepal. It also advised travellers to declare all goods they are carrying, retain receipts and supporting documents, and comply with customs regulations. Passengers were further asked to remain alert to suspicious activities at airports and immediately report anyone attempting to persuade them to transport goods illegally. Police said the advisory aims to curb cross-border smuggling and protect returning migrant workers from unknowingly becoming involved in criminal activities.
