The 5th edition of the club's flagship event, Symphony, was a testament to Jhapa Toastmasters Club's unwavering commitment to fostering communication, leadership, and personal growth while creating meaningful connections and celebrating the joy of learning together. The hall buzzed with conversations, laughter, and shared experiences as Toastmasters-both seasoned members and newcomers-reconnected and built new bonds. For some, the evening felt like coming home; for others, it marked the beginning of a journey into a community where every speech has the power to inspire growth and every voice has a story to tell. Finding the 'why' behind every voice As the evening progressed, the room fell into an attentive silence as Distinguished Toastmaster Abha Ohri, Immediate Past District Director of District 225, took the stage to deliver her keynote address, 'My Why.' Rather than speaking about polished speeches or perfect grammar, she shared a deeply personal journey of transformation. Recalling her early years, she described herself as a 'Badi Malkin' who would not even travel alone let alone approach the ticketing counter for her boarding pass without her husband's assistance. Life within the comfort of a sprawling home and the support of nearly 20 household staff had sheltered her from the world beyond. 'I thought I knew it all,' she reflected. 'But when I took up a job at the Franklin Institute in Siliguri, I realised there was an entire world beyond the walls of my comfort.' What followed was a remarkable journey of growth. Through Toastmasters, she found the confidence to travel independently, speak with conviction, and embrace opportunities that took her across cities and countries-including the Bahamas, Philadelphia, and elsewhere in the United States. With wit, warmth, and effortless storytelling, she connected each chapter of her life to the lessons Toastmasters had taught her. The audience responded with laughter, applause, and moments of quiet reflection, captivated by her authenticity and humour. Her message resonated with everyone in the room: confident communication is not an innate talent-it is a skill cultivated through courage, practice, and a willingness to take that first step. A journey from hesitation to leadership As Immediate Past President Ekta Bansal bid adieu to her tenure, she took the audience on a heartfelt walk down memory lane. From her initial hesitation to step into her first Toastmasters meeting to taking up an Executive Committee role within just six months, her journey reflected the power of embracing opportunities and making the most of every chance to grow. She was inducted at the very first chapter of Symphony and later had the honour of serving as the Club President during the fourth edition. Her relentless dedication, commitment, and passion not only brought accolades to the club but also inspired members to believe in their own potential and step forward with greater confidence. 'In just four years, this club helped me grow, lead, and inspire,' she shared. 'Symphony 5.0 was a celebration of that journey-not just mine, but of every member who has been a part of this beautiful story.' Passing the the torch: A new chapter begins The evening wasn't just about looking back; it was about embracing the future. Division C Director Sandhya Rathi took the stage to install the new Executive Committee for the Toastmasters year 2026–27. As the gavel passed and a new chapter began, Janvi Khedia stepped forward as the newly inducted President of Jhapa Toastmasters Club. 'Aspire to be the GEMS of Jhapa TMC,' she shared, her voice carrying both warmth and determination. Outlining her vision for the year, she expressed her commitment to creating an environment where every member grows with confidence, feels empowered to lead, mentors others with generosity, and serves with purpose. Welcoming new voices into the family The applause grew louder as Area Director C4 Anju Pradhan inducted four new members into the Toastmasters family, marking the beginning of their own journeys of growth and transformation. Adding to the spirit of support and collaboration, Area Director C3 Ankush Adhikari, who travelled all the way from Kathmandu, assured the club that Jhapa would not just have a mentor in him, but also a friend and guide who would stand by the members every step of the way. The stars of Jhapa Toastmasters - Honouring and celebrating growth Laughter and anticipation filled the hall as the club presented the Jhapa Toastmasters Awards, affectionately called the Oscars of Jhapa. Members were recognized across 13 categories; from Toastmaster of the Year to The Meeting Energy Booster. Each trophy wasn't just an award; it was a standing ovation for months of effort, courage, and growth. More than an event, a symphony of stories After weeks of planning, dedication, and teamwork, Jhapa Toastmasters Club successfully concluded its annual flagship event, proving once again that Toastmasters is much more than public speaking.
