RAUTAHAT, AUGUST 11 A reconstructed embankment along the Lalbakiya River in Maryadpur of Maulapur Municipality-1, Rautahat, is at high risk of breaching after the river's water flow rose sharply. According to the district administration, only around 0.5 metres of the embankment remains before it could be breached, raising the risk of floodwaters entering nearby settlements at any time. Chief District Officer Dinesh Sagar Bhusal has urged residents in Maryadpur and surrounding areas to remain on high alert and move to safer locations if necessary. The district administration has placed security agencies on high alert to minimise potential loss of life and property. Security personnel, local representatives and concerned agencies have also been instructed to remain prepared for rescue and emergency response. Residents have been advised not to venture unnecessarily into vulnerable areas and to be ready to evacuate if the situation worsens. Dam under continuous watch The administration said the condition of the embankment is being continuously monitored and preparations are under way for immediate repairs and rescue operations. Bhusal said the risk could increase rapidly if rainfall occurs in the Chure range, as even a sudden rise in the Lalbakiya River's water flow could cause the embankment to fail. Security personnel have been maintaining close surveillance of the vulnerable section, while authorities are preparing measures to reinforce and repair the embankment, he said.
