RAUTAHAT, AUGUST 19 The Indian Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has detained a Somali national who was allegedly engaged in suspicious activities near the India-Nepal border adjoining Rautahat and was preparing to enter Nepal. A team from the SSB's 20th Battalion, Bhangaha, detained Kafi Ali, also known as Hasi Ali, on Monday evening from Baidyanathpur in Bihar's Motihari district, near the border with Ishnath Municipality of Rautahat. According to SSB sources, Ali had travelled by bus from the Indian market town of Ghoda Sahan to Baidyanathpur. His activities appeared suspicious in the border area, prompting the SSB to increase surveillance before detaining him. Indian security officials reportedly recovered INR 25,000 in cash, a mobile phone, a microphone and other items from him. Authorities are investigating whether Ali was preparing to cross the India-Nepal border illegally or had another purpose for reaching the area. His passport, travel documents, Indian entry records and other identification documents are also being examined. Security agencies are also investigating his possible purpose for entering Nepal and whether he had any local contacts in the border area. Following the detention, security surveillance has been tightened along the India-Nepal border. Further details about legal action and the purpose of Ali's activities are expected after the investigation is completed.
