Bhairahawa could hit 37°C as heavy rain, strong winds loom

KATHMANDU, AUGUST 20 Bhairahawa could reach 37°C on Thursday, even as monsoon conditions bring thunderstorms across much of the country and heavy rainfall is forecast in parts of four provinces. The Meteorological Forecasting Division said heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in the hilly regions of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Karnali provinces. Strong winds are also likely at some places in the Terai of Koshi and Madhesh provinces. Moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is expected at some places in the Himalayan and hilly regions, while similar conditions are forecast in parts of the Terai of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces, as well as at a few places in Madhesh and the Terai of Koshi. Among major cities, Bhairahawa is forecast to record the highest maximum temperature of 35–37°C, followed by Dhangadi and Simara at 34–36°C. Kathmandu is expected to see moderate rain with thundershowers and a 60% chance of rain, with temperatures ranging from 29–31°C. Pokhara has a 70% chance of rain and is forecast to reach 31–33°C, while Nepalgunj could see temperatures of 33–35°C with a 40% chance of rain. At the cooler end, Jomsom is forecast to record 23–25°C, while Jiri could see 24–26°C. Overnight, generally cloudy conditions are expected in the Himalayan and hilly regions, with partly cloudy conditions in the Terai. Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in the Himalayan and hilly regions of Koshi Province. The entire country remains under the influence of the monsoon, with the monsoon trough currently around its average position.
