RAUTAHAT, AUGUST 20 A 70-year-old woman and her 16-year-old granddaughter were injured during a midnight security operation to arrest two brothers accused of attacking an Armed Police Force inspector in Rautahat. Police and APF personnel allegedly entered the house of Shiv Pujan Yadav and Nawal Kishor Yadav in Sarmujwa, Baudhimai Municipality-8, around midnight Tuesday, breaking open the main door before taking the brothers into custody. Family members claimed security personnel used wooden sticks to beat relatives who tried to intervene, leaving Basakalia Devi, 70, and Karishma Yadav, 16, injured. Both are receiving treatment at the Provincial Hospital in Gaur, with Basakalia requiring seven stitches to her head and Karishma six. Basakalia alleged she was struck when she tried to stop the arrests, questioning why police entered the house at midnight. The brothers were arrested in connection with a Monday morning clash at Bankul Bazaar, where APF personnel stopped a group allegedly transporting goods suspected of being smuggled without customs clearance. Police said the group attacked officers with stones, injuring Inspector Lokendra Pulami Magar, who suffered a fractured finger. Police spokesperson DSP Basant Gautam said the brothers were identified as suspects and arrested while hiding at home. Asked about the legality of the midnight entry, Gautam said arrests can be made 'at any time under special circumstances,' but added he was unaware of the alleged injuries to the women.
