The victim, a three-year-old girl from Jitpur Simara-1, was found dead inside an abandoned house in Bhaktinagar on Tuesday, a day after she was reported missing. Police said preliminary investigation indicated she had allegedly been sexually assaulted and killed after being lured with chocolate. Police have detained a 16-year-old magic-van assistant, Suman Thapa, and 24-year-old van owner Progress Chaudhary for investigation in connection with the case. A team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Dilip Chhetri of the Area Police Office, Simara, and Superintendent of Police Narendra Kunwar of the District Police Office, Bara, has been investigating the case. A sniffer dog and a specialised crime-scene investigation team were also deployed. Protests have intensified as locals demand a thorough investigation and severe punishment for those found responsible. Police said the investigation is continuing.
