KATHMANDU, AUGUST 24 Heavy rainfall is likely in parts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces on Monday as the monsoon continues to influence the country. The Meteorological Forecasting Division said heavy rain is likely at one or two places in the hilly regions of the four provinces. Moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is expected at many places in the hills, while parts of the Himalayan and Tarai regions are also likely to receive rainfall. The entire country is expected to remain generally cloudy throughout the day. Moderate rain or snowfall with thunder and lightning is forecast at some places in the Himalayan region. Among major cities, Simara is expected to record the highest temperature, reaching 35–37°C, despite a 30% chance of light rain with thunderstorms. Bhairahawa and Janakpur could reach 34–36°C, while Kathmandu is forecast to reach 29–31°C. Kathmandu has a 60% chance of rain both today and tonight, with the temperature expected to fall to 20–22°C overnight. Pokhara also has a 60% chance of rain during both periods. In the western and central parts, moderate rain with thunderstorms is forecast in places including Dhangadi, Nepalgunj, Birendranagar and Ghorahi. Jomsom is expected to remain among the cooler locations, with a daytime temperature of 23–25°C and an overnight low of 14–16°C. Heavy rainfall is also possible at one or two places in the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces tonight. The weather system is being driven by monsoon winds currently affecting the entire country, with the monsoon trough positioned around its average location.
