KATHMANDU, AUGUST 26 At least 95 bodies have been recovered while hundreds of people, including security personnel, tourists and hydropower workers, remain unaccounted for after a major flood swept through parts of Rasuwa and Nuwakot on Wednesday morning. The Prime Minister's Office and Council of Ministers said the bodies had been recovered from the flood-affected areas but their identities had not yet been established as of 7:00 pm. Among those reported missing are 44 Nepal Army personnel, 28 Nepal Police personnel and 13 Armed Police Force personnel deployed in the affected areas. The government also said 391 foreign tourists and 93 Nepali tourists in the affected areas were out of contact. Similarly, 60 employees working at various hydropower projects have been reported missing. Some employees of the Rasuwagadhi Customs Office and Immigration Office have also been reported out of contact. The flood, which occurred in the Bhotekoshi River at around 8:40 am, has also damaged 19 motorable bridges and 40 km of paved roads, according to the government. Further details of the damage and casualties are expected as search and rescue operations continue.
