KATHMANDU, AUGUST 27 Prime Minister Balendra Shah on Thursday morning headed to flood-hit Vidur in Nuwakot for an on-site assessment of damage caused by recent floods, as the government prepares to speed up relief and infrastructure restoration. Shah left for Vidur by road at around 9:30 am, accompanied by Minister for Infrastructure Development Sunil Lamsal, according to the prime minister's press and research adviser Dipa Dahal. The visit comes after flooding in the Bhote Koshi River in Rasuwa caused damage along riverbank settlements. Shah has remained involved in coordinating rescue and relief efforts since the disaster, convening a high-level meeting soon after the flooding and directing agencies to intensify operations. During Thursday's visit, Shah and Lamsal will inspect Vidur and surrounding affected settlements, with the prime minister scheduled to assess physical damage and discuss the relief and rehabilitation situation with local administrators, security officials and elected representatives. The discussions will also focus on restoring disrupted infrastructure and expediting reconstruction in the affected areas. Shah is expected to issue directions to ensure relief reaches all affected communities quickly and that infrastructure restoration and reconstruction are accelerated. Although flooding has caused damage at several locations, Thursday's field visit is focused mainly on Vidur and nearby areas due to time constraints.
