KATHMANDU, AUGUST 28 Several parts of Nepal could see heavy rainfall on Friday, with the Meteorological Forecasting Division forecasting downpours at one or two places across the Himalayan, hilly and Terai regions of multiple provinces. Heavy rain is likely in the Himalayan and hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, the hilly areas of Karnali and Sudurpashchim, and the hilly and Terai areas of Lumbini Province. Moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is expected across many hilly areas, while some Terai parts of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim, as well as a few places in Madhesh and the Koshi Terai, are also likely to receive rain. The weather is expected to remain broadly cloudy nationwide, with moderate rain or snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms possible in parts of the Himalayan region. In Kathmandu, moderate rain with thunderstorms is forecast, with a 40 per cent chance of rain during the day and 60 per cent at night. The capital's temperature is expected to range between 29°C and 31°C during the day and 20°C to 22°C at night. Among the cities forecast, Simara is expected to be the hottest, with temperatures reaching 35°C to 37°C, followed by Bhairahawa and Janakpur at 34°C to 36°C. At the other end of the scale, Jomsom is forecast to remain relatively cool at 23°C to 25°C during the day, dropping to 13°C to 15°C at night. Pokhara is forecast to receive moderate rain with thunderstorms, with a 40 per cent chance of rain during the day and 60 per cent at night. The division said the entire country is currently under the influence of monsoon winds, with the monsoon trough slightly north of its average position in the western region and around its average position in the east. Tonight, generally cloudy conditions are expected nationwide, with moderate rain or snowfall possible in Himalayan and hilly regions, and moderate rainfall in some Terai areas. Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in the Himalayan and hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.
