KATHMANDU, AUGUST 30 The hilly areas of Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces are likely to see very heavy rainfall on Sunday, as the monsoon continues to affect the entire country, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division. Heavy rain is also likely at one or two places in the Himalayan and hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki, the hilly region of Karnali, and the hilly and Terai regions of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim. Moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is expected at many places in the Himalayan and hilly regions nationwide. Similar conditions are forecast across much of the Terai, particularly in Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces. The division said the entire country is currently under the influence of monsoon winds, with the monsoon trough slightly north of its normal position in the west and around its normal position in the east. For Monday night, moderate rain or snowfall with thunderstorms is likely at some places in the Himalayan and hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini, with rain also expected in parts of Karnali and Sudurpashchim. Heavy rain is forecast at one or two places in the hills and Terai of Koshi and the hills of Bagmati. Despite widespread rain, Janakpur is forecast to record the country's highest temperature at 35–37°C. Simara could reach 34–36°C, while Nepalgunj, Bhairahawa, Biratnagar and Dharan are expected to see temperatures of up to 35°C. Kathmandu is forecast to reach 28–30°C, with a 60 per cent chance of rain today and tonight. Pokhara is expected to see a higher 70 per cent chance of rain today, with temperatures of 29–31°C. The division has forecast a 70 per cent chance of rain in Dadeldhura and Dipayal today, while Jomsom is expected to receive lighter rain, with temperatures ranging from 22–24°C during the day and 13–15°C at night.
