30-year-old man arrested in Ramechhap for rape of minor girl

RAMECHHAP, AUGUST 30 Police have arrested a 30-year-old man in Ramechhap over the alleged rape of a 16-year-old girl in Gokulganga Rural Municipality, according to the District Police Office. The accused, identified as Pemnima Sherpa, a resident of Gokulganga, allegedly entered the girl's room at around 10:00 pm on July 12 while she was sleeping and raped her, police said. Sherpa allegedly fled after the incident. Following a complaint from the victim's side, a team from the District Police Office, Ramechhap, and its subordinate units intensified the search for him. Police arrested Sherpa on Friday while he was allegedly hiding, the District Police Office confirmed. Police information officer Kamal Raut said further investigation into the incident is under way. Police have kept the identity of the victim confidential and initiated legal proceedings, according to the district police office.
