RAMECHHAP, AUGUST 30 Police have arrested a 32-year-old man in Ramechhap for allegedly using ChatGPT to create a fake bank statement showing a Rs 120,000 donation to the Prime Minister's Disaster Relief Fund and promoting it on social media. The suspect has been identified as Bhagwan Karki of Those, Gokulganga Rural Municipality-2, according to the District Police Office, Ramechhap. Police said Karki allegedly prepared a fabricated bank statement claiming he had donated Rs 120,000 to the government-run fund for rescue and relief of people affected by the Rasuwa floods. Preliminary investigation found that Karki used ChatGPT to generate the fake document, added his own QR code, and then circulated it on social media. Police took Karki into custody after receiving information about the incident. Investigators suspect the activity may have been intended to spread false information and confusion in the name of the Prime Minister's Disaster Relief Fund, and potentially facilitate financial fraud. Police information officer Kamal Raut said further investigation is under way.
