KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 5 Families of Armed Police Force (APF) personnel killed while on duty in the devastating Bhotekoshi flood will receive Rs 2.5 million each, in addition to education and loan-relief support, the APF announced Saturday. The decision was taken by the APF advisory committee meeting chaired by Inspector General Narayan Datta Poudel, in line with the force's disaster-management provisions. Additional assistance will come from funds collected from APF personnel, joint spokesperson Shailendra Thapa said. Families of deceased personnel will have outstanding loans waived from the APF Employee Welfare Fund, while their children will be provided free education up to Grade 10 at APF schools. The force will also provide Rs 100,000 to families of dependants of personnel who died in the disaster and establish a monument in memory of those killed. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), 13 APF personnel remain unaccounted for. Five survivors will receive Rs 50,000 each as an incentive. The APF also announced Rs 100,000 humanitarian assistance to families of retired personnel who died or became homeless, and Rs 50,000 emergency aid for those injured or whose houses were damaged. Separately, the force has decided to contribute Rs 155 million to the Prime Minister's Natural Disaster Relief Fund, collected from APF personnel including IGP Poudel. Personnel stationed at border outposts and the Mailung security base who survived the disaster will be exempted from contributing.
