KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 6 Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal and his South Korean counterpart Cho Hyun discussed the ongoing search, rescue and relief operations following the devastating Bhotekoshi floods, including efforts to locate missing South Korean nationals. The two ministers held a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Singha Durbar on Sunday. FM Khanal thanked the South Korean government for deploying an interagency rapid response team and the Korea Disaster Relief Team (KDRT) to flood-affected areas. He also expressed appreciation for South Korea's humanitarian assistance and relief supplies. Khanal said Nepal's next priority was to rebuild resilient and durable infrastructure and expressed hope for continued South Korean support in post-disaster reconstruction. Cho expressed South Korea's readiness to support Nepal's reconstruction efforts. He said the international community had a historical responsibility to help countries such as Nepal cope with damage caused by climate change. Cho also said Nepal and South Korea should work together to raise international awareness of the impacts of climate change, including through global forums such as the UN climate conference COP. He added that South Korea would advocate for greater international financial support for Nepal. The two ministers reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations based on longstanding friendship, mutual trust and cooperation.
