KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 10
More than 50,000 LPG cylinders were dispatched to Kathmandu on Wednesday as alternative supply arrangements were made following disruption in the transportation of gas tankers along the Prithvi Highway.
A landslide and river erosion at the Krishnabhir section of the highway damaged the road on August 30, halting tanker movement to the Valley.
According to Bimal Kalakheti, central member of the Nepal LP Gas Industry Association, bottling plants across several districts dispatched 53,469 full cylinders to Kathmandu on Wednesday.
The supplies included 4,543 cylinders from Nepal Gas Industry, Narayani; 5,618 from Nobel Gas Industry in Dhanusha; 1,609 from Gas One (NL) Industry in Bara; 2,121 from Jagadamna Gas Industry, Bara; 3,181 from Leo Gas Industry, Bara; 1,092 from Ambar Gas Industry, Bara; 663 from Super Gas Industry, Parsa; and 1,037 from Manoj Gas, Parsa.
From Chitwan, Nepal Gas Industry Gandaki dispatched 7,348 cylinders, Saibaba Gas sent 5,337, and Baba Gas delivered 8,716. Sahara Gas Industry in Makwanpur sent 7,877 cylinders, while Janaki Gas Industry in Nawalpur and Chandeshwori Gas Industry in Nawalparasi contributed 2,642 and 1,685 cylinders respectively.
Kalakheti said the alternative supply arrangements were made to avert a possible shortage of cooking gas in Kathmandu Valley, where demand has remained high despite the highway disruption.
