KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 11 Emergency medical teams have reached flood-affected communities in Nuwakot and Rasuwa that remain difficult to access due to damaged roads, landslides and disrupted health services. The Partnership for Sustainable Development Nepal (PSDN), with support from Project HOPE, said 860 flood survivors had received medical care within the first four days of its emergency health camp operations. Nearly 4,000 people are expected to benefit by the end of the response. The camps have focused on communities where access to health facilities has been severely disrupted. PSDN said some of the locations had not previously received an organised medical camp following the floods. The teams have provided medical consultations, treatment, essential medicines, health advice and referrals for patients requiring further care. The response was designed to bring services closer to affected communities rather than requiring survivors to travel long distances to health facilities. Damaged infrastructure disrupted transportation and difficult terrain have continued to affect access to healthcare even after the floodwaters receded, according to PSDN. The emergency response has received appreciation from District Public Health Offices, district authorities, local governments and community members in the affected areas, PSDN said. The organisation said the support from Project HOPE, combined with its local presence and emergency mobilisation capacity, had enabled it to reach underserved communities. PSDN said it would continue working with affected communities and partners to ensure emergency assistance reaches those most in need.
