DHADING, SEPTEMBER 14 The Krishnabhir section of the Prithvi Highway, which was completely blocked after the Trishuli River flood washed away part of the road, is expected to reopen fully to two-way traffic from September 16. The Department of Roads said in a statement that it was targeting the full resumption of vehicle movement along the section from September 16. The floods on August 26 and 30 washed away around 100 metres of the road in the Krishnabhir area due to riverbank erosion. The department has since mobilised resources, equipment and personnel to construct a new track and restore the damaged section. As the construction work reached its final stage, the department tested the condition of the new track and the feasibility of vehicle movement on Saturday. Around 20 vehicles, including a gas bullet, travelled from Kathmandu towards Chitwan, while several light vehicles and a heavy vehicle travelled in the opposite direction during the trial. The department said the trial was successful. However, traffic along the Krishnabhir section will remain completely suspended on Monday as remaining road-upgrading and safety works continue. The department has urged passengers, drivers and transport entrepreneurs travelling through the section before September 16 to follow notices issued by the concerned authorities and instructions regarding alternative routes.
