KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 14 National Child Rights Day is being observed across the country today under the theme 'Protection of childhood: security of the future'. The day is observed annually on Bhadra 29 of the Nepali calendar to promote accountability among the government, civil society and other stakeholders in protecting and promoting child rights and creating a child-friendly environment. Stakeholders have called for urgent measures to rescue, support and protect children who lost parents, guardians or property in the Bhotekoshi floods of August 26. Ram Bahadur Chand, information officer at the National Child Rights Council, said the government was committed to providing temporary protection, psychosocial counselling and other necessary services to children affected by the disaster. The council and various other organisations are organising programmes to mark the occasion.
