GHAIGHAT, SEPTEMBER 16 Seventeen people were injured when a truck and a Hiace van collided in Udayapurgadhi Rural Municipality-7 of Udayapur district on Wednesday morning. Police said the accident occurred at Ratmate Damar when a truck (Na 7 Kha 3991) carrying goods from Katari towards Gaighat collided with a Hiace (Ba 4 Kha 5635) travelling in the opposite direction. The injured included the Hiace driver and all passengers. Eight of them, in serious condition, were taken to Neuro Hospital in Biratnagar for further treatment, while the remaining injured are receiving care at Udayapur District Hospital. The Hiace was travelling from Urlabari to Kathmandu. Police said the truck apparently lost its brakes while descending, struck the Hiace and overturned in the middle of the road. The Hiace veered off and fell into a roadside ravine. Police have taken the truck driver into custody for investigation.
