GAIGHAT, SEPTEMBER 20 Udayapur has recorded more dengue infections in the first two months of the current fiscal year than it did throughout the previous fiscal year, prompting health authorities to step up mosquito-control efforts. The district recorded 49 confirmed dengue cases in Shrawan and Bhadra, compared with 46 cases during the entire fiscal year 2025/26, according to the District Public Health Office, Udayapur. Senior laboratory technician Laukaji Rai said 2,384 people were tested for dengue during the two-month period. Trijuga and Belaka municipalities recorded 23 cases each, while Chaudandigadhi recorded two and Katari one. Rai provided the figures at a one-day stakeholder interaction on vector-borne disease prevention and control organised by Trijuga Municipality on Friday. Udayapur has recorded the third-highest number of dengue cases in Koshi Province so far this fiscal year, with Jhapa reporting 432 cases and Khotang 72 in the first two months. With cases rising, Trijuga Municipality said it would launch a campaign across all its wards to locate mosquito breeding sites and destroy larvae. Mayor Basanta Basnet said local development organisations, civil society groups, business representatives, journalists, female community health volunteers, the Nepal Army and Nepal Police would be mobilised for awareness and prevention activities.
