KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 24 Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has introduced a new Rs 1,000 denomination banknote of the 2025 series into circulation from Thursday. The new note retains the existing dimensions of the Rs 1,000 denomination but carries a revised design featuring a light green background enclosed within a purple border. On the front side, the banknote features an image of Mount Everest, a rhododendron watermark and a denomination watermark. It also incorporates several security measures, including a see-through register, tactile marks for visually impaired users, and a 3.5-millimetre security thread that appears red when viewed directly and green when tilted. The thread carries the inscriptions 'NRB' and '1000.' The note bears the signature of NRB Governor Prof Dr Bishwanath Poudel and displays the series year 2082 BS on the front. The reverse side features Ram and Laxman, twin elephants born to Devkali at the government elephant breeding centre in Chitwan. It also includes seven rhododendron flowers symbolising Nepal's seven provinces. Other design elements on the reverse include the words 'RUPEES ONE THOUSAND' and an image of the historic Lachhoka pillar at Hanumandhoka. The lower border carries the marking '2025 A.D.' The central bank also urged the public to handle banknotes responsibly, describing currency notes as an important national asset. NRB has already brougt new Rs 100 and Rs 50 notes into circulation from September 18.
