KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 25 Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has urged residents not to dispose of household waste in public areas after continuous rainfall and landslides disrupted waste collection and transportation services. In a public notice issed on Friday morning, KMC said adverse weather conditions and soil and mudslides along roads leading to the landfill site have made waste transportation difficult, affecting regular collection operations. The metropolitan city requested residents, homeowners, businesses and institutions not to dump waste on roads, junctions, public spaces, riverbanks, streams or other open areas while services remain disrupted. KMC urged people to store waste safely within their homes or premises as far as possible until regular collection resumes. Residents were also advised to separate biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste to facilitate safe management. According to the city, indiscriminate dumping of waste during the rainy season could obstruct traffic movement and block rainwater drainage systems, increasing the risk of localised flooding and sanitation problems. The metropolitan office said waste collection and transportation services would return to normal once weather conditions improve and access to the landfill site is restored.
