KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 28 Chief of Army Staff Gen Ashok Raj Sigdel inaugurated the Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Trophy 2083 sports competition at the Lagankhel sports ground on Monday. The annual competition, which began in 2008, aims to identify talented athletes within the Nepali Army, develop their skills and prepare them for national and international-level competition. Fourteen teams representing various divisions and brigades are participating in eight disciplines-athletics, swimming, boxing, taekwondo, volleyball, basketball, football and judo. In the 5km race held on Monday, Middle Division soldier Nirmala KC won the women's category, while Arjun Budha of the North-West Division won the men's category. Gen Sigdel presented prizes to the winners. Senior army officers, officials, judges and athletes attended the opening ceremony.
