Nepal's monsoon withdrawal has advanced across much of the western part of the country, while moderate rainfall remains likely in several Himalayan and hilly areas, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division.
As of October 3, the monsoon had withdrawn from Sudurpashchim and Karnali provinces, most parts of western Lumbini Province and many places in western Gandaki Province. The weather office said weakening monsoonal winds are expected to allow the monsoon to withdraw from the remaining parts of Nepal over the next few days.
The latest 24-hour forecast shows generally cloudy conditions in the Himalayan and hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces. Moderate rainfall is likely at a few places in these areas, while one or two places in the Himalayan and hilly areas of Karnali and Sudurpashchim could receive moderate rain.
Light rainfall is also likely at one or two places in the Terai areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Lumbini provinces.
For Sunday night, generally cloudy conditions are forecast in the Himalayan areas of Koshi and Bagmati, while the Himalayan areas of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim are expected to remain partly cloudy.
The department has forecast light rain or snowfall at one or two places in the Himalayan and hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini. Moderate rainfall is likely at a few places in Madhesh, as well as in the Terai areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini.
Light rainfall is also likely at one or two places in the Terai of Sudurpashchim Province.
The weather office said westerly winds are partially influencing all areas of Karnali and Sudurpashchim, as well as the western areas of Gandaki and Lumbini. Monsoon winds continue to partially influence all areas of Koshi, Madhesh and Bagmati and the remaining areas of Gandaki and Lumbini.
Among major cities, Kathmandu is forecast to receive light rain with thunderstorms during the day, with a maximum temperature of 27–29°C and a 30 percent probability of rain. At night, Kathmandu is expected to remain partly cloudy, with a minimum temperature of 18–20°C.
Pokhara is forecast to receive moderate rain with thundershowers during the day, with a 30 percent probability of rain, while light rain with thunderstorms is likely at night. The city's temperature is expected to range from 29–31°C during the day and 20–22°C at night.
Janakpur and Dhangadi are forecast to remain partly cloudy during the day, with maximum temperatures of 33–35°C. Light rain with thunderstorms is possible in Janakpur at night, while Dhangadi is forecast to have morning mist.
The Meteorological Forecasting Division said it is continuing to monitor the monsoon withdrawal and the potential influence of westerly winds and will issue further updates as the situation develops.
