PSDN provides emergency health services in flood-hit Nuwakot, Rasuwa

By THT Online

KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 4 Partnership for Sustainable Development Nepal (PSDN), with financial and technical support from Project HOPE, conducted 26 emergency medical and public health service deployments in flood-affected areas of Nuwakot and Rasuwa between September 6 and 30. PSDN organised 12 mobile medical unit deployments in Nuwakot, including in Koloni and Tupuche on the opposite side of the Trishuli River, and 14 mobile medical camps in Uttargaya, Kalika and Kispang rural municipalities of Rasuwa. The teams travelled to communities where damaged roads and access routes had made conventional health services difficult to reach. According to consolidated PSDN records, the response generated 2,715 recorded service contacts. Emergency mobile medical units accounted for 2,266 beneficiaries, including 1,008 males and 1,258 females. Psychosocial counselling reached 292 people, while 157 people received WASH and public health awareness services. PSDN said the figures represent recorded service contacts across different components and should not necessarily be treated as unique individuals, as some people may have received more than one service. The response also included psychosocial counselling for people affected by displacement, loss and uncertainty, along with water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) support and public health awareness activities aimed at reducing health risks following the floods. The flash floods along the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river systems damaged roads and other infrastructure and isolated several settlements in Nuwakot and Rasuwa. PSDN said local governments, ward offices and health-sector coordination stakeholders, including the Health Cluster, appreciated the emergency assistance provided to affected communities. The organisation said its partnership with Project HOPE enabled the deployment of locally based teams to communities facing difficult access during the emergency.
