India-funded municipal hospital project inaugurated in Udayapur

GHAIGHAT, OCTOBER 6 A multi-storey municipal hospital project supported by the Government of India was inaugurated in Triyuga Municipality-5 of Udayapur district on Sunday. The foundation stone for the hospital at Deuri was laid by Narayan Singh, First Secretary at the Embassy of India in Kathmandu. Speaking at the event, Singh said India's continued support to Nepal reflects the multifaceted and multi-sectoral development partnership between the two countries and demonstrates the deep trust and friendship shared by their peoples. He said projects implemented under India's High Impact Community Development Projects programme have been carried out through local governments since 2003 in sectors identified as priorities by the Government of Nepal, including health, education, drinking water, sanitation, sewerage, rural electrification, hydropower, embankment construction and river control. Describing the hospital as an important example of Nepal-India development cooperation, Singh said the project would help expand access to healthcare services and improve the quality of life of local residents. He also noted that the Government of India has provided 150 ambulances in Koshi Province, including 13 ambulances in Udayapur, and distributed three school buses to educational institutions in the district. Triyuga Mayor Basanta Basnet expressed gratitude to the Indian government for its continued support and called for further assistance in infrastructure development within the municipality and district. According to project details, the hospital has an estimated cost of Rs 240 million. The construction contract was awarded for Rs 159.8 million, including VAT. The planned hospital building will accommodate health and administrative services across six levels, from the ground floor to the fifth floor. Earlier in the day, Singh also inaugurated a drinking water project completed in Sripur with financial assistance from the Government of India. The hospital project is expected to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in Triyuga Municipality and improve access to medical services for residents of the surrounding area.
