KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 9 Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in the hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces on Friday, while rain and snowfall accompanied by thunder, lightning, windstorms and hail are expected in several parts of the country, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology. The department said generally cloudy conditions will prevail in the Himalayan and hilly regions nationwide. The Terai areas of Madhesh, Koshi and Sudurpashchim provinces are also expected to remain generally cloudy, while the remaining Terai districts will experience partly cloudy conditions. Moderate rain or snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning, windstorms and hail is likely at some places in the Himalayan and hilly areas. Moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is forecast at a few places in the Terai areas of Madhesh, Koshi and Sudurpashchim provinces, and at isolated places in the Terai areas of Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces. The department said Nepal is currently under the combined influence of monsoon winds and a westerly low-pressure system. During the night, generally cloudy conditions are expected to continue across the Himalayan and hilly regions, as well as in the Terai areas of Madhesh and Koshi provinces. Other Terai districts are likely to remain partly cloudy. Moderate rain or snowfall with thunder and lightning is likely at a few places in the Himalayan and hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces. Similar conditions are expected at isolated locations in Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces. Moderate rainfall is also forecast in parts of Madhesh and the Terai areas of Koshi Province. The department said mist is likely across most parts of the Terai during the morning hours. In Kathmandu Valley, moderate rainfall with thundershowers is expected during the day, with temperatures ranging from 24°C to 26°C. Night temperatures are forecast between 14°C and 16°C, with light rain and thunderstorms likely. Pokhara is also expected to receive moderate rainfall, with daytime temperatures of 26°C to 28°C and nighttime temperatures of 17°C to 19°C. Jomsom is forecast to receive moderate snowfall, with temperatures ranging from 16°C to 18°C during the day and 7°C to 9°C at night. Daytime temperatures are expected to reach 31°C to 33°C in Bhairahawa, 30°C to 32°C in Dhangadhi and Nepalgunj, and 25°C to 27°C in Janakpur.
