Budhigandaki flood washes away 35 houses in Gorkha

GORKHA, OCTOBER 11 A flood in the Budhigandaki River washed away 35 houses in Paiyu and Bagar villages of Chumanubri Rural Municipality in Gorkha early Sunday. The flood struck at around 4 am, forcing residents to flee to safer areas. Lakshmi Gurung, vice-chair of Chumanubri Rural Municipality, reported that the flood also caused damage in Dobhan, Ghattekhola, Jagat and Salleri villages, as well as the market area in Ward 3. Police have advised residents of Khorlabensi, Machakhola, Soti, Arkhet and Arughat in Sirdibas and Dharche rural municipalities to move to safer locations amid the continuing risk, said Akash Kandel, a police inspector at the District Police Office, Gorkha. No casualties have been reported so far. Authorities are yet to complete a detailed assessment of the damage. (With inputs from RSS)
