KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 21 Bijaya Dashami, the 10th day of Bada Dashain, is being celebrated across Nepal today as people receive tika, jamara and blessings from elders. The Nepal Calendar Determination Development Committee has set 10:26 am as the auspicious time to receive tika and jamara. The immersion of the goddess Durga is scheduled for 8:49 am, according to committee chairperson Prof Purushottam Bhattarai. Bhattarai said people could receive tika throughout the day after the ritual immersion, although 10:26 am had been designated as the auspicious hour. The nine-day worship of Goddess Durga at Dashain homes and shrines formally concludes on Bijaya Dashami. The tika and jamara rituals begin after the sprinkling of holy water, and people continue receiving blessings until the full moon day. Red tika is associated with good fortune and victory, while jamara symbolises prosperity. Both are regarded as blessings from the goddess Nawadurga. Bijaya Dashami commemorates the victory of good over evil. According to religious belief, the day is auspicious for starting new work or undertaking a journey without having to consult a specific auspicious hour.
