MUSTANG, OCTOBER 24 Tourist arrivals in Mustang have risen sharply after Dashain, with 7,846 domestic and foreign visitors entering the district over Thursday and Friday, according to the District Police Office. A total of 3,033 visitors arrived on Thursday, the day after Dashain tika, while another 4,813 entered the district on Friday, police said. Tourist numbers had remained low before the festival following monsoon-related disasters, including floods in Rasuwa and damage to the Beni-Jomsom road caused by landslides and riverbank erosion. The road, the main route connecting Mustang, was obstructed by the damage. Police Inspector Ishwar Mahat, information officer at the District Police Office, said arrivals through the Beni-Jomsom corridor had increased since Dashain. Police records show that 5,663 visitors entered Mustang via the route between Ghatasthapana and Vijaya Dashami this year. They included 3,738 men and 1,925 women. Of the total, 4,409 were foreign tourists, accounting for 77.85 per cent of arrivals during the period, Mahat said.
