KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 8 Kukur Tihar, the festival dedicated to dogs, is being observed across the country today, the third day of Yamapanchak during this year's Tihar festival. Kukur Tihar is traditionally observed on the second day of Tihar, but calendar adjustments have shifted it to the third day this year, said Dr Purushottam Bhattarai, chair of the Nepal Calendar Determination Committee. On the occasion, people honour dogs with garlands, tika and special food in recognition of their loyalty and traditional association with Yamaraj, the Hindu god of death. The day is also known as Narak Chaturdashi.
