ITAHARI: Police today detained Bidur Bhattarai, headmaster, Mahendra Secondary School in Bharoul VDC-3 of Sunsari district alleging him of attempting to rape his own student. Bhattarai attempted to rape the student yesterday afternoon when she was preparing for her SLC exam. The victim was in her friend's house at Bharaul-3 at the time of the incident. The victim's friend is a relative of the headmaster. After entering the house at around 3.30 pm, headmaster Bhattarai sent his relative (victim's friend) to buy noodles before attempting to rape her, woman rights activists have claimed. According to the victim, she retaliated and ran away from the house after her own headmaster attempted to rape her. The infuriated locals thrashed Bhattrai as the news spread like wild fire in the village. The locals also vandalised his motorcycle. Bhattarai's family members, however, came to his rescue and saved him. The police detained headmaster Bhattarai today after the victim lodged a complaint. Women rights organisations have demanded stern action against the headmaster.
