PM vows to fight corruption

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal today said that the present government would bring transparency in the government activities and assured that it would root out corruption from the society. PM Nepal viewed that corruption; negligence and the lack of transparency have delayed government work. “Collective efforts are required to control corruption,” said the prime minister, urging the people to help end every type of corruption prevailing in the society. Addressing a programme organised to mark the anniversary of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), he said that the present government would do its utmost to control corruption by fully implementing the existing laws and endorsing additional laws as well. He further assured that the present government would follow regulation as per the United Nations convention against corruption. Nepal ratified the convention in 2003. Speaking on the same occasion, Chief Justice Anup Raj Sharma underlined the need for a strong mechanism to fight uncontrolled crime and said that the CIAA should fulfil its responsibility by being determined toward its rights and goals. Sharma further added that the constitution has made the CIAA strong enough to fight corruption. The appointment of officiating officers is also helping the CIAA, viewed Sharma. During the programme, The Himalayan Times and a reporter of its sister daily-AP- Yam Birahi, were felicitated for their special contribution in covering corruption issues in the dailies.
