Hetauda, May 13:

Following the construction of a 12 km long road from Hetauda’s Padampokhari to Makari, farmers have better means to reach the market for vegetables grown on their farms.

Owing to the access provided by the road, farmers in Handikhola VDC-2 Makari and Chakari are able to market their produce not only in Hetauda but in the neighbouring district, Chitwan’s Narayangadh and to the capital as well.

“We realised a few years ago that vegetables can be grown abundantly in our fields. But there was no way to sell them as transportation was not possible,” said a local farmer, Ganesh Lama. But, it has become easy now after the road has been built. Farmers in Makari can now receive a reasonable price for their produce of cucumber, pumpkin, bottle-gourd, tomato and capsicum.

The Padampokhari-Makari road was built with financial assistance of Rs 4,00,000 and volunteering, chairman of the consumers’ committee, Hom Bahadur Moktan, said.

According to him, the road is motorable, except during the rainy season.
