Microbus torched after mishap

KATHMANDU: An elderly man was killed after a microbus knocked him down in Gaurighat on Monday at around 10:15 am. Irate locals in association with passersby forced the vehicle over to the roadside and set fire to it. The injured Thakur Prasad Aryal (70), hailing from Baireni- 9 of Dhading, succumbed to his injuries while being treated at Om Hospital in Chabahil. Sadhuram Aryal, one of the sons of the deceased told The Himalayan Times that his father was on the way to the hospital to have his eyes checked when the he met with the fatal accident. Sadhuram alleged that the driver ran over his father in reverse gear after knocking him down, leaving him critically injured. "My elderly mother was also accompanying him at the time. She said the microbus crushed his head before she could pull him over to safety," he said. Metropolitan Police Sector, Gaushala said an investigation into the incident was underway. The microbus driver has managed to escape the public fury. Tension flared in the area following the incident.
