Nembang urges parties to focus on statute writing

By Mahendra Thapa

RUPANDEHI: Chairman of Constituent Assembly Subas Chandra Nembang today urged all the political parties to concentrate on writing the constitution and to postpone all other works as the statute deadline was approaching. Making a book on Late Narayan Pokharel public in Dudhrakshya VDC, Nembang said national consensus had no alternative. Urging all parties to iron out differences persisting among them, he called on the people of the Tarai, Hill and Mountain regions to stand united. Stating that the CA had prepared a primary draft of the statute, he said the constitutional committee would prepare a consolidated report. He said discords existed in 10 subject committees during the drafting process, adding that the CA had forwarded the disagreements to the leaders of main political parties. ''The primary draft includes the notes of dissent but it will not pose a threat to the timely promulgation of the constitution.'' Nembang said the final draft will be presented to the full house twice for endorsement before putting it to vote. Stating that the statute would be the common manifesto of all ethnic groups, languages, religions and political parties in the country, he urged all stakeholders to contribute to its adoption.
