KATHMANDU; Majdur Shahid Smriti Club claimed the men’s football tournament of the first National Sports Tournament organised by PLA Sports Club here today. Jaggu Khadka and Jivan Sinkeman scored a goal each as Majdur Club defeated Western Region 2-0 at the Dasharath Stadium. Jaggu gave Majdur the lead in the 59th minute and Jivan ensured their victory adding the second five minutes from time. Raj Kumar Ghising of the winning team was declared the man-of-the-match. Rupak Shrestha of Western Region, Bikram Lam of Majdur Club and Rohit Chand of Mid Western Region were adjudged the best goalkeeper, midfielder and defender respectively. Suraj Gurung of PLA Sports Club was named the best player while Jivan Sinkeman finished as the highest goal scorer with nine goals. PLA (red) beat Mid Western 2-0 to win the third-place decider. Suraj Gurung and Susan Gauchan scored for the PLA. Eastern Region won the women’s football title with a 3-1 win over PLA (red). Kalikote, Indira Rai and Samrachana Pradhan scored for the winners while Nisha Sunwar replied for the PLA. Earlier, PLA (blue) rallied for a 2-1 win over Central Region to finish third. Ashmita Khawas of PLA (blue), Dipa Adhikari fo Eastern Region and Muna Pulami of Central Region won the best goalkeeper, midfielder and defender awards respectively. Nisha Sunuwar of PLA (red) was declared the best player of the tournament while Rupa Malla of PLA (blue) ended up as the top scorer with 13 goals. The top four teams earned Rs 300,000, Rs 200,000, Rs 150,000 and Rs 75,000 respectively. Western Region defeated PLA (red) in straight sets 25-16, 25-15, 25-14 to clinch the women’s volleyball tournement. On Thrusday, Far Western beat Central Region to win the third place decider. Western Region also won the men’s title defeating Central Region in final on Thursday. The winners pocketed Rs 200,000 and the runners up received Rs 150,000. Likewise third-placed Far Western earned Rs 100,000 and fourth-placed Central Region won Rs 50,000.
