ICJ Secy Gen to arrive today

KATHMANDU: Secretary General of International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) Wilder Taylor is arriving here on a visit tomorrow to assess the human rights situation and rule of law. Taylor would consult various leaders and human rights activists here, according to ICJ lawyer Govinda Bandi. “The objective of Taylor visit is to assess the rule of law and accountability here,” Bandi said. Taylor will meet Chairman of the Constituent Assembly Subas Chandra Nemabang and Peace and Reconstruction Minister Rakam Chemjong and other various CA members, human rights activists and lawyers during his three-day stay. He is also delivering the concern of the international jurists’ body on Major Niranjan Basnet’s trial in civilian court. Despite mounting pressure from national and international human rights bodies, Basnet is yet to be produced in the court.
