UN team meets SOS kids

DHULIKHEL; A team of the Child Rights Committee of the United Nations today interacted with students of Kavrepalanchowk district at a programme organised on the premises of SOS Balgram at Shreekhandapur in Panauti. The UN team had arrived in Nepal to study the situation of child rights in the country. Committee Chairman Yangli and Vice-chairman Dr John Martin interacted with the students involved in different children clubs across the district. They interacted with the representatives of about 20 children clubs and took information of the activities of those clubs. Highlighting the works of children clubs, chairman of Nirmal Children Club at Thuloparsel, Samten Tamang said the children of the club had declared the village an open toilet-free area. They have been spreading awareness for implementing literacy classes in the village, he added. Meanwhile, Saraswati Mahat of Kavre Deaf School said that some schools deny enrolling of hearing impaired children. She also informed that she could not concentrate on her studies as she needs to walk three hours for school daily.
