Hyung Dae Kim had 42 points to claim the second Nepal Golfing Fellowship of Rotarians 2005 Championship here at Gokarna Forest Golf Resort, today. Kim, who also bagged the Most Birdies award with four birdies, was the overall winner of the tournament, which was jointly organised by 67 Rotary Clubs of Nepal. In Rotarians’ category, Tashi Ghale won with 37 points and Purna Bahadur Rai was the runner-up with 31 points. Ghale also won the Best Gross award. In non-Rotarians’ section, Harish Gorsia won with 38 points followed by Rajendra Kumar Pradhan (36). Pard Kim (27) was the winner in ladies’ section, while Kesang Lama was the runner-up on count back with 25 points. Khadga Jeet Baral (10) claimed the super senior section title, whereas Lt Gen Krishna Narayan Singh Thapa won the senior section title with 36 points followed by Yeshe Tshering with 35 points on count back. Other individual award winners were: Tashi Tshering (Longest Drive), Lobsang Tashi (Closest to the pin) and Morten Rana (Best Sportsmanship).

In putting competition organised for the non-golfers, Santosh Sharma won in men’s section and Abin Bhakta Shrestha was the runner-up. In women’s section, Jenny Vaidya won and Navita Pradhan finished second. The tournament, which was participated in by 92 players, was played at Stableford 3/4 handicap format. Minister for Finance and president of Rotary Club of Jawalakhel Madhukar SJB Rana handed over prizes to the winners. However, the mega prize, sponsored by KIA Motors for Hole in One, did not go to any of the participants and later was auctioned for approximately Rs 15,00,000. The KIA Sedan was bought by Rtn Pradip Shrestha.

The proceeds of the event will be given to Rotary Nepal Centennial Everest Expedition. The expedition team include three Rotractors — Moni Mulepati, Kami Sherpa and Pem Dorji Sherpa — who are on their way to scale Mt Everest, marking the Rotary International’s 100th year. Rtn Pradip Shrestha, chairman of the organising committee; Rtn Nugal Baidya, member of the organising committee; Rtn Gopal Sundar Lal Kakshapati; coordinator of Centennial Ceremony; and Rtn Tika Man Baidya, Rotary chief co-ordinator of Nepal; were also present on the occasion.
