KATHMANDU: Women and Sports Commission of Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) feted the 11th South Asian Games women medallists along with their coaches and manager with cash rewards here today.
Nepal won eight gold, nine silver and 20 bronze medals in the SA Games in Dhaka. In all, 51 women players, two coaches and a manager were honoured with cash prizes. The Nepali women’s had won three individual gold, two individual and one team silver (football) along with nine bronze medals. Of the nine bronze medals women won in Dhaka, four were team events - doubles table tennis (Muna Basukala and Gita Thapa), Badminton (six players) and kabaddi (12 players).
Wushu player Binita Maharjan, taekwondo player Ayesha Shakya and karateka Ganga Adhikari won the women’s individual gold. All three players were rewarded with Rs 50,000 each.
Likewise, karateka Anu Adhikari and taekwondo player Manita Shahi had won silver. They were handed over Rs 35,000 each. The women’s football team had also won the silver medal and all the 20-member team including manager Bimala Poudel were honoured with Rs 15,000 apiece.
Among the other individual bronze medallists to have feted were judoka Debu Thapa and Radha Devi Ria, wushu player Alina Chaudhary and Jharna Gurung, taekwondo player Yan Kumari Chaulagain and TT player Muna Basukala.
The women’s football team members who lost to India in final were Jamuna Gurung, Bhagwati Thapa, Usha Bhandari, Pramila Karki, Man Maya Magar, Laxmi Poudel, Anu Lama, Deepa Chhetri, Nisha Dewan, Binita Shrestha, Tulsha Singh, Mira Maharjan, Asmita Khawas, Deepa Adhikari, Niru Thapa, Chandra Bhandari, Sapana Lama, Namita Dali, Sajana Rana Magar and Narjana Suruchi.
The kabaddi team included Sangita Gautam, Ranjana Tamang, Ambika Mandal, Netra Kumari Thapa, Ramita Thapa Magar, Kosh Maya Magar, Minu Gurung, Kalpana Shrestha, Sushila Magar, Nirmala Bista, Shanti Malla and Nitu Gurung. Coach Shanti Singh was also feted with Rs 10,000.
Likewise, Puja Shrestha, Sujana Shrestha,
Sabina Panthi, Sara Devi Tamang, Narsala
Devi Tamang and Poonam Gurung were
the team members that won the badminton bronze medal. Coach Rajani Joshi also received Rs 10,000.
Minister for Defense Bidhya Devi Bandhari handed over the cash rewards to the players.
