Nepal humble hosts to storm into ACC Elite Cup semis

KATHMANDU: Nepal defeated Kuwait by 8 wickets at the ACC Trophy Elite 2010 at KOC Hubara in Kuwait on Tuesday and advanced to semifinals as the Group A winners. After losing the toss and having to field first, the host country, Kuwait was bundled out for a modest 120 runs in 42 overs, after Kuwaiti batsmen struggled to score against the tight Nepali bowling. Nepali off-spinner Sanjam Regmi accumulated four of the Kuwaiti wickets, medium fast bowler Binod Das got three and Mehboob Alam grabbed two. In Kuwait's innings Saud was the top scorer with 26 runs while Saad remained unbeaten on 24 runs. Chasing the easy victory target of 121 runs for winning the match, Nepal achieved the required runs in just 26.2 overs losing just 2 wickets. In Nepal's innings, Mahesh Chhetri was the top scorer with 63 runs, Anil Mandal scored 33 runs whereas Shakti Gauchan and Gyanendra Malla remained unbeaten. Nepal now will face Malaysia the runners up of the Group B on Wednesday. Nepal had already advanced into the semifinal after beating Singapore on Saturday. Nepal made two changes in the team bringing in former captain Binod Das and vice captain Gyanendra Malla. This is the fourth consecutive win for Nepal. In their earlier matches, Nepal had beaten holders Hong Kong, Oman and Singapore.
