Situation apt for new govt: 'Prakash'

KATHMANDU: UCPN-Maoist vice-chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha ‘Prakash’ today said the situation was getting better for his party to form a national unity government. “With this government in place, consensus for peace process and the constitution is impossible,” said Shrestha at an interaction at Janasanchar Abhiyan. “Our first priority would be to forge consensus for a national unity government,” he said. Prakash said that time to form State Restructuring Commission has already expired. “Therefore the Constituent Assembly should hire a team of experts. When our party was leading the government, the Nepali Congress and UML did not let us form the commission. Now, they are pressing for the commission.” However, he put forward two conditions for the formation of the commission: it should not challenge the existing State Restructuring Committee that has already completed several tasks and the May 28 deadline should not be extended. The commission should act as a complementary body of the Committee, he added. Referring to top leaders meeting with President Dr Ram Baran Yadav on Sunday, Prakash said, “The leaders went to the president’s residence to attend a dinner programme, not to hold political dialogues.”
