KATHMANDU: Unified CPN-Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on Tuesday said that the incumbent government led by CPN-UML has badly defamed the nation on the international front. Addressing a mass meet organised by the party to mark the fourth anniversary of the commencement of Jana Andolan II at Khula Manch, Kathmandu, he said, “This is the most worthless and corrupt government in history which is defaming the nation in the world.” Launching a sharp criticism of the government with derogatory terms and blaming it for hampering the peace process, the Maoist boss demanded its immediate ouster and the formation of a people’s government. Prachanda went to great lengths to criticise the government and accused it of functioning under a remote control since its formation. He said the political parties should be serious on the issue of the integration and rehabilitation of PLA fighters to end the peace process. He stressed the need for political willpower among the parties to accomplish the twin tasks of drafting the constitution on time and taking the peace process to a logical conclusion. “It is clearly stated in the Comprehensive Peace Accord that the nation will be restructured on the basis of ethnicity, region and gender but the incumbent government is doing nothing for the past 10 months,” he said, adding that the parties representing the government are more interested in dissolving the Constituent Assembly instead of drafting the constitution. “Once a national unity government is formed it will be possible to draft the constitution within one and a half months and the peace process to end within a month,” the former prime minister claimed. Addressing the meet, Prachanda said, “It is not the end of the fourth phase of our agitation, but it is the beginning of a decisive agitation in all 75 districts across the nation.” He further said several issues including establishing civilian supremacy, forming a national government, drafting the constitution on time and taking the peace process to a logical conclusion will materialise from the agitation which is a nationwide campaign to ensure people’s rights. He said his party always favoured sovereignty and functions as per the sentiments of the people. He threatened to launch another agitation with the participation of lakhs of people on May 1.
