DAMAULI: The massive earthquake of Saturday measuring 7.6 on Richter scale had a huge toll on the temples and other structures in Devghat, a popular religious and tourism site, in Tanahun. According to Sub-inspector Indra Rana, of Area Police Office, Devghat, senior citizens’ homes including Harihar Ashram, Galeshwor Ashram and Bridhhashram have been destroyed in the quake. Following the quake, senior citizens are living under tents in the open. Around 40 per cent mud houses in Devghat area have been destroyed. Similarly, government offices, waiting areas and the road on the confluence of Trishuli and Kali Gandaki have suffered damage. Devghat Area Development Committee has estimated that millions of rupees will be required for reconstruction of the destroyed structures in the area. While Kota VDC in Tanahun witnessed destruction of around 50 per cent houses, the entire district has a figure of 16,304 damaged houses including 3,377 houses that were completed damaged. As many as 19 schools, six temples, three each VDC buildings, health posts and police posts have also suffered damage. One person died and 21 persons were injured due to the earthquake in the district so far. CDO Raj Kumar Shrestha said they are collecting details of damage on a war footing in the district. “We are simultaneously collecting relief materials from volunteers and organisations,” said CDO Shrestha. Tents distributed DAMAULI: As many as 1,605 tents have been distributed to quake victims in different places of Tanahun so far. While Red Cross of Tanahun provided 75 tents, Kaski Red Cross, Tanahun District Development Committee and Byas municipality have contributed 675, 203 and 150 tents respectively. Similarly, according to Chief District Officer Raj Kumar Shrestha, Bandipur municipality, Shuklagandaki municipality, Biratnagar Chapter of Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Rotary Club have provided 100, 83, 238 and 51 tents respectively. A total of Rs 1.2 million has been collected for quake victims.
