KATHMANDU: Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) Veterans lifted the title of the Olympic Day Knockout Football Tournament here on Monday at Nepal Army headquarters. In the finals, TAC Veterans beat Nepal Army Training Centre Kharipati 1-0. Earlier, the Veterans team had defeated Sports for All Nepal Club, while Nepal Army Training Centre had edged past Sainikk Awasiya Mahavidhyalaya for the final spot. CA Member KB Thapa, Nepal Olympic Committee President Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan, Sports for All Commission President Bishnu Gopal Shrestha, Army officials and NOC members along with players were present at the presentation ceremony. Langer defends title LOS ANGELES: German Bernhard Langer captured his fifth career senior major in style when he completed a six-stroke romp at the Senior Players Championship in Massachusetts on Sunday. Langer entered the day with an eight-stroke cushion and finished things off with a 68 for a 19-under 265 total at Belmont Country Club. Kirk Triplett fired a 64 to earn second place at 13-under, but Langer was never challenged as he successfully defended his Players Championship crown. Langer, 57, has dominated the senior circuit since turning 50. Three players tied for third place at 10-under on Sunday, including Colin Montgomerie who had won two of the last four senior majors entering this event. Konjuh wins crown NOTTINGHAM: Croatian teenager Ana Konjuh won her first WTA tour title on Monday when she defeated Romania’s Monica Niculescu 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 in the final in Nottingham. Konjuh had to play twice on Sunday, winning a delayed quarter-final and then defeating Alison Riske to reach the final, which was held over to Monday because of the rain hold-ups. She looked understandably weary in the first set but fought back to win the title and is now closing on a first appearance in the world top 50.
