With a vision to address the critical issues of youth unemployment in Nepal, Nepalese Young Entrepreneurs’ Forum (NYEF) with the support of Federation of Nepalese Chambers and Commerce Industries (FNCCI), initiated a programme based on the model Youth Business International (YBI), Nepal Youth Business Initiative (NYBI). Established in June 2004, NYBI aims at promoting youths for entrepreneurship and has been successfully able to help the first group of four underprivileged entrepreneurs. On the sidelines of raising funds to help young entrepreneurs, NYBI organised Corporate Go-Kart 2005 on May 28 at Tiger Karts, Manamaiju. “It was a fundraising event with a lot of fun and frolic. Thirty-two major corporate houses with three representative from each participated in the event,” said Saurabh Jyoti, chairman and founding trustee, NYBI.
Madhukar Shumsher Rana, Minister for Finance; Leyla Tegmo Reddy, country director, ILO and other dignitaries were present during the inauguration ceremony. The programme was a huge success owing to participants’ enthusiasm. “The first of its kind racing in the country saw not only good participation but we also were able to generate around Rs 500,000 which will go to NYBI funds,” added Jyoti. Akash Golchha of Golchha Organisation bagged the first prize (a ticket to Bangkok and back courtesy RNAC and a gift voucher of Rs 7,000 from Bhat Bhateni Dept Store. Navin Lohani of Nabil Bank stood second and won a ticket to Pokhara and back and a stay in Shangrila Village Pokhara. Mukunda Mall of DHL grabbed the third prize which included a Seiko watch and a gift voucher of Rs 5000 from Auto Land. We were privileged to have Crown Prince Paras to grace the event. Crown Prince Paras also distributed prizes to the winners.
